Why to celebrate International Literacy Day

Each year from 1966 UNESCO has celebrated International Literacy Day with the aim to sensitize and mobilize public opinion and support in favor of literacy activities. The ultimate goal is to minimize illiteracy by educating the adults as well as maximizing the enrollment of children of the school going age.

National Commission for Human Development celebrates International Literacy day each year in letter and Spirit.

Preparation for International Literacy Day

• District Manager NCHD had meeting with EDO Education Mrs.Shahida Sohail .Discussed with her in detail the importance of celebrating of International Literacy Day which is also celebrated as the day for maximizing the enrollment. The EDO E proposed that the meeting should be held in tehsil chunian as it is backward tehsil as far as literacy rate is concerned .She also proposed that GBHS Chunian is proper place for celebrating this event. She also suggested that a meeting should be held with EDO literacy.

• Conducted meeting with EDO Literacy Kasur Mr.Muhammad Aslam Shad regarding celebrating International Literacy day. The EDO Literacy took the responsibility to invite the DCO Kasur. It was decided that there will be Literacy Seminar followed by awareness walk in tehsil Chunian.

• District Officer Revenue Sheikh Khalid Saleem represented DCO Kasur. He was of the view that the Govt. is doing its level best to provide quality education through provision of free text books also training are conducted for teacher so that they can improve their teaching skills. He congratulated the GBHS for securing 3rd position in BISE Lahore in the HSC examination. He hoped that by consolidated efforts Pakistan can achieve the target of 86% literary rate by 2015.

EDO (Literacy) lead the Literacy walk from Chunian Chowk to GBHS chunian. The students were chanting slogans
